So many saw and loved L’Amour Fou, the documentary that was mostly missing the man Yves Saint Laurent himself, and centered more the dismantling of the collections that Yves and his partner (romantic and business) Pierre Berger had built together in 40+ years. See it if you haven’t. What a life. The paintings and various furnishings made over $600 million at auction. Berger touched on the inner workings of their life in that film, but with heroin addiction and a life filled with drama, how honest do we expect this new film to be? Yves Saint Laurent, will look glam and must have requisite drama and intrigue (it’s french!) but we’ll see how Behind The Candelabra it gets with boys and drugs, etc. He was not just a designer or or celebrity but really like royalty to the french, especially Parisians, so it’s hard for us to judge this really – we have no equivalent American designer. Great casting though – the real Yves and Pierre on the left, actors Pierre Niney as Saint Laurent and Guillaume Gallienne as Berger, right. Put in on the shelf next to Donatella.
