As theatrical institutions across the globe have opened up their archives in response to increasing lockdown restrictions, the National Theatre in London is going online.
Switching to its YouTube channel, starting April 2, under the banner of National Theatre at Home (which has an amazing archive of cinema-quality recordings) every Thursday (2pm EST) will see a new play released. It’s free to watch for one week and will include cast and creative Q&As and post-streaming talks.
It’s family-friendly fun so far with farces like Richard Bean’s beloved One Man, Two Guvnors, starring a pre-talk-show-days James Corden.
The initial lineup is:
April 2– One Man, Two Guvnors by Richard Bean, starring James Corden.
April 9 – Jane Eyre, adapted by Sally Cookson
April 16– Treasure Island, adapted by Bryony Lavery
April 23– Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, starring Tamsin Greig
NOTE: The National Theatre will have no live performances until at least July 2020. For other ways to watch plays while on lockdown, click here.
