Virginia Lee Hicks, better known by her stage name, Jennie Lee, was a stripper, burlesque star, pinup model, and somewhat of a movie actress who performed striptease acts in nightclubs during the ’50s and ’60s. Her act centered on how fast she could get her propeller pasties to spin and how dizzy she could make the audience. Due to her 42D–26–37 figure, she became known as “The Bazoom Girl,” a burlesque version of Jayne Mansfield. By the early ’50s, she’d broken into acting with small roles in 1953’s Peek-A-Boo, 1958’s Abandon, 1961’s A Cold Wind in August, and 1964’s 3 Nuts in Search of a Bolt, with Mamie Van Doren. Despite her dreams of breaking into the mainstream, she found herself typecast in bit parts, never getting her acting career off the ground. In 1955, she helped start a union for dancers, The Exotic Dancers’ League of North America, acting as the club’s first president. (Photo via soyouthinkyoucansee)
