Oh! What a sweetheart! I remember Queerdonna performing at clubs like the Limelight, Red Zone, and the Tunnel – dazzling the crowd with his fabulously perverse brand of Madonna idolatry. And then of course there were his jaw-dropping talk show appearances in the late ’80s and early ’90s which were LEGENDARY.
Born Greg Gostanian from Forest Hills, Queens, he was was a big girl in drag and made no bones about it. He dressed as Madonna, his idol, in skimpy little outfits with his boobies hanging out, which had the children GAGGING. He was once famously kicked off an airline because of his weight and successfully sued, winning a lot of money (though not quite the million we all heard about).
Sadly, in later years he had a stomach bypass, although there was an undetected mass under her folds that lead to infections which ultimately killed him in 2000.
Below, a 1991 interview segment from WOW’s first TV program Manhattan Cable in which he talks about stalking Madonna (pretending to be longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg – HA!), his many Madonna sightings over the years, the book he was writing about her, a gift he once received from her… then he does a little rooftop voguing for the camera. YOU ARE MISSED, QUEERDONNA!
