WOW TV is here, http://wowtv.tv/
It all began with our first ever show, a compilation of clips from the wild, wacky, and wonderful shows found on Manhattan Cable’s public access channels. The idea that anyone and everyone could make their own shows was so wildly appealing to us it almost made us tear off our clothes and prance around naked. Almost. But instead we remained fully clothed and let 10 years pass working in the coal mines of television. We’d think up ideas, try to sell them, and – if we were lucky – get to make them. Of course, we had to give up all the rights. So we wondered if there was another way. And then the internet came along.
Originally, WOW TV was just going to be an array of WOW channels. We figured we’d give away or sell the stuff we’d managed to own. Then we thought that much better and much more fun would be to devise something that would allow anyone to have their own channel.
That’s WOW TV.
Now that the site is live, you can create your own channel. You can brand your own channel. You can program your own channel with your own content. You can give that content away or you can sell it – and keep most of the money. And soon you’ll also be able to add ads to your shows – and make even more money.
Because we believe that in a world of 500 channels, why not 500 million?
TV is a medium that belongs to all of us. and often the best TV comes from those who have nothing to do with it. In the time since we set off in pursuit of this idea, YouTube has gone from zero to billions and we know that what we have is far from perfect. But as inspiring to us as the day we started is the excitement that comes from seeing someone doing something completely out of the box.
Because we’ve always known – as you have – that the only people who call it the “idiot box” are idiots.
