Photographer Michael Freeby recently shot some sizzling new pics of Hollywood’s sweetest superstar, Tab Hunter, who is still looking amaaaaazing at the tender, young age of 86.
Tab may be best known for starring in #1 box office hits like Damn Yankees and the groundbreaking classic Polyester – and alongside a long list of iconic leading ladies that included Divine, Natalie Wood, Sophia Loren, Barbara Eden, Rita Hayworth and Lana Turner. Tab Hunter also scored a few Billboard top 10 hits, and starred in his own tv show along the way!
Tab Hunter’s recent book, Tab Hunter Confidential, reached #1 on the New York Times best-sellers list, and its accompanying documentary was a critically acclaimed hit, winning numerous awards at essentially every major film festival.
Check out the exclusive pics above and below. Thanks, Michael!
Of the shoot, he says:
Not only was Tab handsome – he was very nice as well!
The photos will be featured in my forthcoming photo exhibition set to be presented by the Museum of Digital Art in Los Angeles, the EyeBeam Museum in New York City, and a very special event in London.
Below: A video of their photoshoot
And here’s an excerpt from his book Tab Hunter Confidential, on how difficult it was being such a handsome teenager.
And below are some Instagram pics of him in his golden heyday.
“I lived a very ‘Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell’ life.” – Tab Hunter . Picture: Tab Hunter (b. Arthur Andrew Kelm; July 11, 1931), c. 1955. . Tab Hunter, who turns eighty-six today, is an American actor, singer, and author, best-known as a leading man in Hollywood during the 1950s and 1960s, and for his work in John Waters’ “Polyester” (1981). . In September 1955, as he skyrocketed to fame based largely on his striking “All-American” good looks, the tabloid magazine “Confidential” published a piece on Hunter’s 1950 arrest for disorderly conduct (i.e., being at a gay house party); it later was revealed that Hunter’s agent, Henry Wilson, cut a deal with “Confidential” to out Hunter (and Roddy McDowall) in exchange for protecting another of Wilson’s gay clients, Rock Hudson. . While the news did not immediately impact Hunter’s career, he largely faded from the public eye by the mid-1960s. . Hunter’s career enjoyed a revival of sorts in the 1980s, when he starred opposite Divine in John Waters’ “Polyester,” and appeared, as Mr. Stewart, in “Grease 2.” . In 2006, Hunter released his autobiography, “Tab Hunter Confidential: The Making of a Movie Star,” later released as a documentary film, in which he acknowledged, for the first time, that he is gay; he also confirmed that he had long-term relationships with actor Anthony Perkins and figure skater Ronnie Robertson. . Since 1983, Hunter has been in a relationship with film producer Allan Glaser. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #TabHunter

Tab Hunter Confidential (2015). A really good documentary chronicling Tab Hunter, closeted 50s Hollywood heartthrob. Fans of Tab, 1950s Hollywood or queer culture, I’d recommend seeking it out. Interviewees include Tab himself at his most personal, and John Waters and George Takei, (along with some other big names) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #tabhunterconfidential #tabhunter #1950s #johnwaters #documentary #netflix #queer #lgbt #jefferyschwarz #anthonyperkins #warnerbros
