Allan Heinberg, a producer-writer on The OC, Sex and the City, and Gilmore Girls, is the new writer who will bring back to life the Amazon Princess known to millions of horny young comic book readers as Wonder Woman. She returns this month, magic bracelets and golden lasso intact, to grace an all-new series, One Year Later, in the pages of DC Comics after a rather unfortunate year off. “Basically, in order to save the earth, she had to essentially commit murder,” said out gay writer Heinberg, who happens also to be the brother of Friend of WOW Brian Heinberg. “And so the world at large and the superhero community at large are very ambivalent about her.” He’ll have his work cut out for him, now that her gods “have retreated from the astral plane, as have the Amazons. She’s left all by herself, sort of orphaned and trying to decide whether or not she’s going to continue.” But we’re sure Heinberg has created an unstoppable diva. (After the jump, Heinberg’s casting picks for the movie.)
QUEEN HIPPOLYTA: Lena Olin (Alias)
“Regal, smart, and beautiful, Olin would make a complex, otherworldly Amazon queen.”
DONNA TROY: Kate Beckinsale (Underworld: Evolution)
“A proven action star with Underworld, Beckinsale would give Donna Troy uncommon intelligence, depth and grace.”
WONDER GIRL: Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls)
“Lohan is every bit as tough, beautiful and dangerous as Geoff Johns’ current characterization of Wonder Girl [in Teen Titans].”
ARTEMIS: Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil)
“The sword-swinging star of Ultraviolet is ideal casting for the Amazon warrior who is as lethal as she is lovely.”
GIGANTA: Gretchen Mol (The Notorious Bettie Page)
“The star of The Notorious Bettie Page has that classic ’50s pin-up look and a twinkle in her eye that lets you know she’s in on the joke.”
ARES: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission: Impossible III)
“The roguish, seductive star of Bend It Like Beckham and Match Point would make the perfect dark mirror to Jolie’s luminous Wonder Woman.”
