In honor of the 49 people killed at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, dozens of Broadway stars have united to sing a moving cover the 1965 Burt Bacharach hit “What The World Needs Now Is Love.”
Over 60 artists are featured on the track, including Kristen Bell, Carole King, Lin-Manuel Miranda (BE STILL MY HEART!), Nathan Lane, Sean Hayes, Audra McDonald (THE GODDESS!), Sara Bareilles, Bernadette Peters (THE LEGEND!), Tommy Tune, Idina Menzel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Gloria Estefan, and Rosie O’Donnell.
“All of us in the Broadway community are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that occurred in Orlando in the early morning hours of June 12,” the stars say, in turn, at the start of the music video posted online yesterday.
The session was orchestrated by SiriusXM host Seth Rudetsky and his husband, producer James Wesley, with all of the proceeds from the song’s sale being donated to the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida.
