It’s too bad John Travolta wasn’t tapped to make the announcement but had he you’d be hearing the news
“Ladies and gentlemen, Broadway’s new Funny Girl, Adele Dazeem!
Yes, according to Broadway Journal, Idina Menzel (that’s what I said) is reportedly in talks to star as Fanny Brice in the highly anticipated first Broadway revival of Funny Girl.
Following the musical’s original 1964 Broadway premiere, it had two West End productions as well as a never produced 2012 revival, but has yet to actually return to Broadway. Menzel has talked about her love for the role of Fanny, and Rosie O’Donnell revealed back in 2018 that she would be starring in the revival as Rose Brice, Fanny’s mother, although this is unconfirmed.
But it IS clear that the Broadway revival would be headed up by Michael Mayer, who directed the West End production.
No official announcement on the status of the revival has been released (Travolta, standing by…) but until then, you can listen to Menzel giving Don’t Rain on My Parade her all at the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors for Barbra Streisand, who seems to approve.
