So apparently there’s been a surge of bets on 55-year-old Peter Capaldi (known for playing hot-headed Malcolm Tucker on BBC’s The Thick of It) taking over the role of Doctor Who from Matt Smith at the end of the year. Joe Crilly, a spokesperson for the William Hill online betting agency, said: “Peter Capaldi was not even in our list a few days ago but he has been the subject of a lot of betting interest recently and this gamble would suggest that if he does not have the part already, he is almost certainly on the shortlist.” It is thought that Capaldi’s name began to surface after Doctor Who creator Steven Moffat said he would not rule out casting an older Doctor. He said: “We’ve never not considered an older Doctor. It is completely on all the lists we make- there are absolutely older Doctors.”
So as of now, the odds on favorites are:
Peter Capaldi: 2/1 (YUCK)
Ben Daniels: 4/1 (EVEN YUCKIER)
Rory Kinnear: 6/1 (I SWEAR TO GOD I’LL STOP WATCHING)
Ben Whishaw: 10/1 (NOW BEN I COULD GET BEHIND) (LITERALLY) (HUBBA HUBBA)
David Harewood: 10/1 (HMMM. MIGHT BE INTERESTING.)
I notice that Rupert Grint didn’t make the list, which is sad. I would have liked that. So, now I’m hoping that it’s Ben Whishaw. Or maybe Ben Barnes. I want another cute Doctor.
