Gone are the bow ties, scarves, and fezes that defined earlier incarnations of the Doctor. The BBC today released the first picture of Capaldi’s character in his new Time Lord get-up. The look – a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt, and black Dr Martens shoes – was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.
Says Peter Capaldi: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing. Just 100% rebel Time Lord.”
Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat said the new era meant for a new outfit. “Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you.”
Charlotte Moore, controller of BBC One, said: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The 12th Time Lord means business.” (via Belfast Telegraph)
