Turns out that Orange County isn’t just all about Ryan and Marissa and Seth and Summer. According to an exhaustive report in the OC Weekly, the entire county is so gay it’s like a giant back room. So maybe there’s still hope for Ryan and Seth.
Garden Grove was the capital of queer OC for decades—no, seriously! In 1964, the Happy Hour, a women’s bar, opened on Garden Grove Boulevard. Lured by cheap rents, other gay pubs sprung up in the city throughout the following 10 years, including Rumour Hazzit, the Tiki Hut, the Mug, the Iron Spur, the Old Bavarian Inn, the Knotty Keg, the Hound’s Tooth, the Ranger, the Saddle Club and DOK West. For a while, Garden Grove’s gay bars actually outnumbered West Hollywood’s.
