It has all the earmarks of an instant cult classic: A lurid plot based on a real-life murder in the gay film industry involving an underage superstar… It stars an off-the-rails James Franco (our favorite kind of James Franco)… And features a breakout performance by a hotsie-totsie former Disney star who spends a goodly amount of time on his knees… and on his back… and in the shower… and prancing around in his underoos… Also: there are supporting performances from Alicia Silverstone and Molly Ringwald.… I MEAN, HELLOOOOOO. What else do you need?
The movie is about Cobra Films porn producer Bryan Kocis, who was murdered by two Virginia Beach escorts and aspiring porn producers, Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerkes.
A quick primer (via Trey Speegal)
The murder that was carried out in 2007, was extremely violent, with Kocis stabbed 28 times and his throat slit. Then his house set on fire to destroy evidence. Cobra Films alleged they owned the rights to his star Brent Corrigan’s name (his real name is Sean Lockhart) and sued him for lying about his age when he began work for them (he was under 18). Cuadra and Kerkes hoped that by killing Kocis they would eliminate the competition and start a new era of gay porn. Geez, what a sleazy story! A little complicated but juicy, trashy and lots of room for Franco to push boundaries, which he LOVES to do.
That’s Teen Beach Movie‘s Garrett Clayton in the title role as Brent Corrigan. Whatta star!
