Ways You Can Support the Los Angeles LGBT Center

By Nikki Nguyen on December 4, 2020 12:38 pm

Since 1969 the Los Angeles LGBT Center has cared for, championed, and celebrated LGBTQ+ individuals and families in Los Angeles and beyond. They are an amazing and trusted resource for LGBTQ+ folks and provide mental health, medical, social, housing, legal, youth, and senior services.

Today the Center’s nearly 800 employees provide services for more LGBT people than any other organization in the world, and in addition to their services, they offer offering programs and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership and Advocacy.

The LGBT Center has truly been an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world, a world in which LGBTQ+ people can be healthy, equal, and complete members of society.

Below are some ways you can support the LGBT Center’s amazing work.

Spring into action and volunteer! “Our community of compassionate, talented, and fun-loving volunteers is missing just one thing: you,” the Center says. “From special events to ongoing program support, the right opportunity to help change—and ultimately save—lives is waiting for you.”

You can join the Resistance Squad and take direct action to protect LGBTQ+ rights, or even become a LifeWorks Mentor and provide one-on-one mentoring with LGBTQ+ youth. Anything you can contribute will be valuable in helping LGBTQ+ folks get the support they need. Volunteer here.

Become a LAWN member

The Los Angeles Women’s Network is a diverse membership organization that supports the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s vital services for women and girls by providing opportunities for service, education and networking.

In just one year, your LAWN Membership helps their:

  • Audre Lorde Lesbian Health Program cover the cost of medication for 12 women with an STD.
  • Homeless Youth Programs offer 100 nutritious meals for young women at the Youth Center on Highland.
  • Senior Services Program provide hygiene kits for 30 women who cannot afford their own supplies.
