I understand how we all need to catch our collective breath after the inauguration, but it is now time to pay attention to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), the racist, unhinged QAnon cultist who won election on November 6, 2000.
Here is a sample of some of the fun stuff she has been up to since she took office: Greene spread conspiracy theories about school shootings on The Facebook; endorsed the executions of Democrats; supported the QAnon claims that there is a global pedophile cabal involving top political figures, and said the 2018 midterms represented “an Islamic invasion of our government“. On Wednesday, a disgusting video of Greene harassing Parkland school shooting survivor David Hogg was making the rounds on social media. She’s a real sweetheart.
On The Facebook, Greene liked a comment that read: “…a bullet to the head would be quicker” than removing Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from her speakership, plus she liked a comment about Pelosi that said “through removal or death, doesn’t matter, as long as she goes“. Greene responded to another commenter who suggested hanging Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, writing:
“Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”
Greene also claimed:
“I am told that Nancy Pelosi tells Hillary Clinton several times a month that ‘we need another school shooting’ in order to persuade the public to want strict gun control.”
Greene was a local commentator before successfully running for Congress in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. She has falsely claimed that there is no evidence a plane crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11; accused the Obama administration of killing Democratic staffer Seth Rich; and pushed anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic rhetoric. She also liked comments suggesting execution for FBI agents who were viewed as working with the “deep state”.
She has claimed that the 2012 school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut was staged, and suggested another mass shooting, in Las Vegas, was part of a plot to abolish the Second Amendment.
After the 2018 midterms, in which Democrats won back the House, Greene said the win represented “an Islamic invasion of our government“; compared Black Lives Matter activists to the Ku Klux Klan; and claimed that George Soros, a Holocaust survivor, collaborated with the Nazis.
The spokesperson for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Axios:
“These comments are deeply disturbing. Leader McCarthy plans to have a conversation with the Congresswoman about them.”
House Republicans sent a clear message about where they stand on the formerly fringe elements of the radical right wing by assigning Greene to the House Education and Labor Committee. That’s right; the disinformation princess is overseeing Education legislation! Fox News pundits are still defending QAnon so they can hold onto their radicalized viewers, while violent right-wing groups are ramping up their QAnon recruitment efforts.
Yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security issued a warning to:
“…alert the public about the growing threat of ideologically-motivated violent extremists agitated about President Biden’s inauguration and perceived grievances fueled by false narratives.”
