Won’t somebody please think of the children?
In this 1977 episode of the BBC2 current affairs program Brass Tacks, we meet the punks of Manchester. Suffice to say they were about to destroy the very fabric of society and bring about the end of days. We watch a live show, meet several of the young punks, then switch to debate panel format in which crotchety old people decry the trend and argue with the degenerate kids. Can you IMAGINE how electrifying this must have been to teenage viewers in 1977? It’s a wonder the entire country didn’t smash their TV sets and storm the streets…
Fabulous. Just fabulous.
And as boingboing points out: During the rollicking debate, keep your eyes peeled for young John Peel and Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks.
