RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4 star Valentina had an announcement today about her gender identity.
“I identify as nonbinary,” Valentina told Out in an interview. “I don’t completely feel like a man, I don’t completely feel like a woman. I feel like a goddess. I feel like I’m my own gender.”
She went on to say that she plans to bring her gender identity into the role of Angel in the upcoming live production of RENT on FOX.
“I get to bring that aspect to my Angel character,” she said, “and really have an idea of like, ‘Why is she so happy and so confident in her armor, in her drag?’”
And it’s a role she doesn’t take lightly.
“I do take the responsibility of being a gay nonbinary drag queen person taking on a really important iconic role like Angel and I hope [audiences] tune in for it,” she said.
RENT airs on FOX on Sunday, January 27 starring Valentina as Angel along with Tinashe as Mimi, Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen and Kiersey Clemons as Joanne.
