We don’t usually dabble in this sort of thing, but the bitter rivalry between gossip rags big and small intrigues us. Jossip today has the dirt behind how Janet got the HOW I GOT THIN cover story on US Weekly:
With a new album out, a Rolling Stone cover would be a nice boost for Janet’s likely to be unimpressive album sales. But to get that elusive cover, Wenner required her to shill for tabloid baby Us Weekly. […] The Janet-Wenner fallout is breaking now only because the American version of OK! magazine tried scoring an interview with Janet — and was summarily informed she’d be unavailable to chat, since she had an exclusive arrangement with Wenner.
Meanwhile, the Janet cover was the mag’s best-selling ish ever (probably due to JJ’s diet tips) and it happened while editor Janice Min was off bringing out her own special issue – a baby. If she’s truly dedicated to her tabloid, she’ll keep that baby sequestered for five or six months and let only one or two B-level celebrities pretend to see it.
