A well-known TikTok user and his friend are dead after being shot at a California movie theater during a showing of The Forever Purge.
Anthony Barajas, 19 and his date, Rylee Goodrich, 18, were at the Regal Edwards Movie Theater in Corona, CA on Monday night. Theater staff found them with gunshot wounds after the film was over.
Goodrich died at the scene and Barajas was taken to a hospital for treatment where he was put on life support. He died yesterday.
Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested in connection with the shooting Tuesday and is being held on $2 million bail and charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery, according to CNN.
Jimenez was located by police at his home. Police searched the home and found a firearm and additional evidence related to the movie theater crime scene, they said.
There were fewer than 10 people in the theater where Goodrich and Barajas were shot, but it has not been determined if the shooting happened during or after the movie.
Corona Police Cpl. Tobias Kouroubacalis told CNN,
“They were shot in the head.
We will not know how many times or the exact entry point of the bullet(s) until the coroner performs their autopsies and writes their reports.”
The Forever Purge debuted in theaters earlier this month. It’s the fifth movie in the “Purge” franchise. Each is based on the premise that a totalitarian government has created one night each year where murder, is legal.
Anthony was somewhat of a TikTok star with nearly a million followers (but since his death, it has been deleted.) Rylee was a cheerleader whose Instagram profile said “turn your pain into power.”
