Tonight’s the night you’ll wish your TiVo had more than two tuners. Lost, of course, on ABC at 8. But also at 8, on MTV, is the documentary I’m Still Here, in which young Hollywood goyim read from the diaries of young Jews in Europe. Of Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood, Ryan Gosling, Kate Hudson, Amber Tamblyn, and Joaquin Phoenix, the NY Times says, “Some of them have beautiful voices. Ryan Gosling reads the part of Ilya Gerber, an 18-year-old diarist in Lithuania, in a controlled and effective Rocky Balboa street accent. . . . And Brittany Murphy reads the words of an anonymous girl in the ghetto in Lodz, Poland, in a heart-rending whisper.” Sounds like the next best thing to having cameras in Anne’s attic, which MTV totally would have had if there’d been cable TV. But also at 8, on CBS, Dr Phil and Pat O’Brien go head-to-bald head in a Dr Phil Prime Time Special: Behind the Headlines, which promises to be a grisly road accident as the two jackasses – one smarmily accusing, the other properly contrite – bray at each other for a full hour. At 9, it’s American Idol on Fox, followed by the new guilty pleasure sitcom Stacked, with Pam Anderson. Then at 10, another ferocious episode of Showdog Moms & Dads airs on Bravo, competing with the night’s capper: ABC’s much-anticipated behind-the-scenes report on Paula Abdul and the filthy-dirty business of American Idol, the behind-the-scenes special Fox couldn’t stop. Now that’s a night worthy of sweeps.
