This is not Cher’s “Take Me Home.” Not even close. This is Seattle’s Mike Hadreas aka Perfume Genius at his most mournful, most elegiac, most sublime. Wearing only a football jersey and high heels, the genderqueer superstar gives voice to his soul-crushing weariness. Says Consequence of Sound: “There’s something deeply intimate and beautiful about the rugged promiscuity within the clip, and yet there’s also something warped and tragic. It’s as if Hadreas can only exist in this strange nocturnal world he’s created, and we’re almost imposing.” Can someone please sing this at my funeral?
