Trump criticized the congressional testimony of his former lawyer Michael Cohen just hours after his testimony before a House committee, branding Trump as a “con man” and a racist and accused him of criminal wrongdoing.
According to USA Today, Trump spoke with reporters at the end of his lovefest/summit with his girlfriend, North Korean President Kim Jong Un after watching some of Cohen’s testimony before the House Oversight and Reform Committee,
“It was pretty shameful, I think.”
Trump it “a fake hearing” and slammed the committee for holding it during his denuclearization talks with Kim.
“Having it during this very important summit is sort of incredible.”
Trump said Cohen “lied a lot” in his testimony, but he said he was surprised that Cohen did not accuse his presidential campaign of colluding with the Russians,
“He didn’t lie about one thing: He said no collusion with the Russian hoax.
I was actually impressed he didn’t say I think there was collusion for this reason or that… I was a little impressed by that frankly.”
In testimony, Cohen tied the White House more directly than ever to multiple investigations and told the congressional panel that Trump knew in advance that WikiLeaks planned to release stolen emails damaging to political rival Hillary Clinton.
Cohen also suggested that Trump knew in advance of a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, headed by Donald Trump Jr., where a Russian lawyer promised to provide damaging information on Clinton.
Cohen provided the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee with documents that appeared to back up some of his claims, including a $35,000 check signed by Trump, one of 11 “installment” payments to reimburse him for the hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Of course, Trump’s defenders on the committee blasted Cohen as a pathological liar and pointed out repeatedly that he has pleaded guilty to a string of financial crimes and for lying to Congress.
But Fox News commentators Greg Gutfeld and Juan Williams got into a heated exchange Wednesday after Cohen’s testimony to a committee committee. Gutfeld threatened to throw Williams “off the set” after Williams accused Gutfeld of being “so deep in the bunker”, a reference to Gutfeld’s support of Trump.
Gutfeld responded, arguing that he was trying to give another panelist the chance to talk when he interrupted Williams,
“Oh, shut up, Juan! I’m in nobody’s bunker. Enough with your bunker. I’m trying to be polite to somebody on the panel, Juan, which you won’t do.”
Cohen’s testimony isn’t like to move many out of Trump’s “bunker” as they defend anything he says or does.
Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately). He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!
