RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7 queen and one of the stars of WOWPresents‘ hit web series UNHhh Trixie Mattel talks with the WOW Report about her debut album Two Birds which is currently sitting at number TWO on iTunes! And RuPaul tells us what SHE thinks!
We got all the gossip on drag comedienne/country crooner Trixie Mattel’s just-released debut album Two Birds – available on iTunes where it’s currently perched at number two on the albums chart – including the explanation of the title, her favorite song from the album, and how she feels about being stuck between the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtrack and Ed Sheeran on the iTunes albums chart.
The WOW Report: Will people be surprised by what they hear on your album Two Birds?
Trixie Mattel: Yeah. People know Trixie for her larger than life dark sense of humor, but this isn’t a comedy album. Like, Steve Martin has a grammy for Bluegrass music even though he’s known as a comedian. I’ve been doing music longer than I’ve been doing drag. The album is called Two Birds because it’s the life experiences of Trixie interpreted by a real person.
TWR: Are some of the songs Trixie’s and are some of the songs Brian’s?
TM: No. It’s the life story of a traveling performer trying to have a relationship. Who the audience envisions singing the songs is irrelevant.
TWR: What is your favorite song from the album?
TM: My personal favorite is called “Seen My Man.” You know, I’m performing and traveling, and I wrote it at a time when I wasn’t seeing many familiar faces because I travel alone, and I only see strangers. It’s about the basic human experience of just how comforting it is to see someone you know every once in a while.
TWR: So what does the album sound like?
TM: It sounds like sad white guy music sung by a birthday clown.
TWR: How does it feel to be sandwiched between the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 soundtrack and Ed Sheeran on the iTunes albums chart?
TM: My grandpa always told me being a performer was 40% how good you are and 60%I how good you look doing it. Two Birds is my 140%. It makes me want to put a wig on Ed Sheeran and French kiss Chris Pratt.
We also asked Mother RuPaul herself what she thought about Trixie hitting number two with her first album, and RuPaul told us exclusively, “I’m so proud of Trixie. She’s worked very hard for her success.” Get Two Birds right now on iTunes!
