The LA Times is reporting that in recent months, six teens in the San Fernando Valley have been hospitalized with alcohol poisoning after drinking hand sanitizer, freaking out public health professionals who smell a dangerous trend. Seems the clever kids have figured out that salt separates the alcohol from that cleaning stuff in products like Purell (ask one of them how). Since sanitizers are 62% ethyl alcohol, a 120-proof liquid, a few shots can get you drunk enough to pass out. Hand sanitizers come on the heels of such other over-the-counter teen thrills as mouth wash, cough syrup, and vanilla extract.
