Kai Shappley, a transgender 10-year-old who asked her state legislature not to pass a law classifying her supportive family as child abusers, is now facing harassment and threats.
Here is her viral testimony:
Kai told the committee:
God made me. God loves me for who I am, and God does not make mistakes. I want to say thank you to those of you who are sticking up for kids like me. By the time I’m in college, you will be celebrated in the history books.
Predictably, the testimony of Kai and her mom did not go over well with some people. LGBTQ Nation reports that “the harassment both have received has gotten so bad that the little girl’s parents are keeping her off social media while the mom has filed a police report after being told ‘all the ways I should kill myself.'”
Kai is the subject of an Emmy-winning documentary presented by the American Civil Liberties Union.
Hang in there, Kai! So many of us are here to support you, and you are on the right side of history!
