Super talented electro-pop singer, actress, essayist Nomi Ruiz (Jessica 6/Hercules & Love Affair) is the star and producer in new thriller Haymaker, out On Demand and in theaters January 29th. The film weaves a tale of worlds colliding when a retired Muay Thai fighter (Nick Sasso) becomes Ruiz’s bodyguard during a world tour, after saving her from a nefarious thug encounter during one of her live shows. “In a time when the world is so divided, adds Ruiz, it’s powerful to see these two characters- one from the hyper-masculine world of boxing, the other a trans woman from the high-femme, glitz, and glamour of my world as an entertainer- not only find common ground but somehow find a way to love themselves and each other more than they thought they ever could.”
Check out the trailer below, and Nomi’s latest song Like A Ghost (prod. Sam Sparro), OUT NOW on all digital platforms. For more info, got to nomiruiz.com. (screengrabs via Haymaker film)

Nomi Ruiz:
“What I hope people take away from ‘Haymaker’ is that you need to live
your truth in order to have the capacity to love and be loved. It’s taken me a while to realize I’m worthy of love. There are elements of your past that never really go away, especially as women of trans experience. Our trauma will always live in our bodies and maybe our love lives too.”
