Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles (MDLLA) has given viewers worldwide an insider look into the luxury real estate industry of Los Angeles. The series has introduced us to top real estate agents, showing us just how high-stakes this ever-changing market is, along with stunning properties, fierce competition, high-profile clientele, and the challenges that come with it.
We recently caught up with one of the stars of the show, leading lady, and top real estate agent, Tracy Tutor.
Why should everyone watch this season of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles?
It’s going to be a really interesting season! The format is shifted a little bit. You’re not going to only see wins, necessarily, for every listing. We’re all trying to expand into different territories and pay attention to the market. It’s not your typical “go on the listing appointment, land the listing, have the open house, get the offer, close it” situation. People are going to see what we go through with some of the more difficult challenges and deals that we have. Something new this season, is a bit more of me having a voice with the guys and the Brits. I also think everyone has grown up a little bit. Bobby and Josh are finishing wrapping up their house, Altman had another baby, and I sold my home, which is another big thing!
What was something surprising to you on this season of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles?
I can’t give much away, but I end up getting a call to go out on the same listing as someone else…
What was your stand out listing from Season 11?
When we traveled to the UAE to go on a listing appointment in Dubai.
This season gets kind of crazy! Any juicy gossip fans will learn about (without giving away spoilers)?
I have my first confrontation with the Brits!
This season, we see how the Los Angeles fires impacted your industry. How did this affect you, specifically?
I had friends that were affected by the fires, and that was really tough, obviously. It also changed my business in Malibu, because I list quite a lot of properties there and that market was affected, however, it bounced back pretty quickly, but it was a really tough time.
How do you keep going when times are hard?
I mean, we’re in the middle of a pandemic–you suck it up, and you wake up everyday, and do the best that you can. Times are tough right now; we’re not selling real estate, and anyone who says they are and that business is booming is kind of full of it! It’s a difficult time to be in this business, so you have to wake up and have a positive attitude to get to the other side of it.
How do you stay in tune with yourself, your fitness schedule, and your other hobbies with your busy schedule selling real estate?
I’m big on calendaring and scheduling, and setting reminders because it’s so easy to get caught up with clients, or stuff at the computer. If I have it on the calendar and I know that I have to work out at 7 or 8 a.m., then I’m waking up at 6 to have my coffee. You know, it’s like everything down to the hour has to be scheduled for me, so that I can make sure I’m checking all the boxes, that I’m doing things that are good for me mentally, socially, and physically, but also good for my kids.
How did you get into real estate? Is this something you had always known you were interested in?
I was never previously interested in real estate. I studied theatre in college, but my father was a big public works contractor, and I guess on some level it was in my blood. I worked for him after college and got my feet wet being in rooms where he was bidding on huge projects and I found that piece exciting. But my days there were short lived and I took a chance with real estate.
You have a very busy schedule; how are you adjusting to slowing down during these times?
If it were not for Covid-19, I would welcome the slow down a lot more. I think it has forced me to get back to the simple things, like cooking–and dare I say–cleaning, working out, playing games with the kids…even just reading. I think we should be forced into a one week quarantine annually. It has been good for me mentally, physically, and emotionally.
What types of activities are you doing during your self-quarantine?
Tonight is game night over here, where I will take on the kids in Rummikub. I used to beat them quite a bit, but they are getting too good now. We are working out everyday, walking my dog, Netflix and chilling, and cooking.
You have an amazing at-home gym. Tell us more about that! What inspired you to post your workout videos on Instagram? Has fitness a big part of your life?
I made sure my trainer was in my quarantine bubble, so he is kicking my ass on the daily! I have been working out more than before and I posted about it once. My followers seem to enjoy it, so content, content, content, right? I can’t just post real estate. That would be such a snore!
