I was talking with my mother, who lives in Rome, over the weekend and she told me about the shortage of toilet seats in Italy. The details were sketchy, but the basic idea was that every public bathroom in Italy is missing its toilet seat. It’s not that they never had them; it’s that they seem to have been stolen. Every last one. Apparently there’s a large black market for stolen used toilet seats in Italy. I’m not sure what this means, but I suspect it has something to do with all the coffee that is consumed there, or possibly they are made out of some really nice Italian marble. Either way, my interest is piqued.
