From the desk of Moye Ishimoto:
Unofficially. Really, I don’t think there’s any real Tofu Day, but I’d just like to crown today Tofu Day, just for me. In the little area around my desk so I don’t bother too many people. Plus, I don’t think as many people like tofu as I thought. I had this whole conversation with David Schiff and Jordan yesterday about how disgusting Tofu was, and how it shouldn’t be considered a food or even have a whole festival devoted to it.
Wait, what? A festival? WHY YES!
This weekend, August 12th to 13th, is the annual Los Angeles Tofu Festival. It would be better off called something like the LA Soy Festival, ’cause they don’t just serve tofu there, but all kinds of soy ice cream, soy milk, soy pad thai, and soy uh…things.
What’s even better are the really cute Tofu Festival T-shirts they sell with all proceeds benefitting the Little Tokyo Rec Center. You know, that building where they help out all the old and dying Japanese people and all the non English-speaking Japanese immigrants?
SO GO.
