Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt breakout star Tituss Burgess BLOWS AWAY an audience at New York Magazine’s Vulture Festival with his show-stopping rendition of the Little Mermaid classic “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”
Before Kimmy, Burgess actually appeared on Broadway in the show, playing Sebastian the crab, but says he felt the role never really suited him.
“While I was playing Sebastian, I was like, ‘I’m playing the wrong role. I went to the producers when I was getting ready to leave the show to see if they would let me audition for this other role that I should have been playing. And they said no.”
That role was Ursula the Sea Witch, of course. And it would have made TOTAL sense for him to play it (as you shall see below). The role, after all, was actually inspired by the drag queen Divine.
Maybe after producers see this, he’ll be cast in the role for ABC’s “The Little Mermaid” live musical, which will air this fall. *Fingers Crossed*
