The New Jersey waitress who lied about receiving an anti-gay “tip” from a pair of local patrons has officially been let go from the restaurant where the incident allegedly took place. Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater released a statement on Saturday saying Dayna Morales will “no longer continue her employment” at the restaurant. The statement went on to claim the decision to terminate their relationship was mutual. Two weeks ago, the story of a gay waitress who said she was refused a tip by a New Jersey couple went viral. But now Morales reportedly began refunding payments made to her PayPal account, set up in the aftermath of the now-debunked incident. At least three people said they had been refunded their donations, but one person who sent in cash said he had not had his money returned. Many people also stopped by the restaurant to donate to Morales in person, and she supposedly took in over $3,000 before the hoax was discovered. Despite the outcome, Gallop’s owners say their investigation was “inconclusive,” and that “despite news reports to the contrary, this is not a simple, straight-forward matter.” Really? Either she lied or she didnt’t. It can’t be THAT complicated. If she didn’t lie, she would have challenged the people who said that she had lied. BTW, no word on how much of that money has been returned to date. (via Gawker)
