Performer “Muddy” was yanked after 20 seconds of their performance in black face…
At Kauai Beach Resort last Friday, November 9 at A Show Fit for a Queen hosted several drag performers for
“a small charity event on the island supporting a youth suicide prevention group.“
The ‘Special Guest Male Impersonator’, was Muddy, The King of Memphis, but the audience is NOT HAVING IT when Muddy appeared on stage in full blackface. The Facebook video shows 20 seconds of his ‘performance’. Muddy appears to be dancing to Bad To The Bone by George Thorogood.
The FB poster of the video commented,
“I have no idea what organizers knew ahead of time. This was not a bar, some event space for the fundraiser. The organizers did cut the spotlight and music about 45 seconds into their performance.
It looked like this person had two other numbers on the set list but they cut them from the show.“
The incident has been linked to drag bar Scarlet and the promoter of that bar has hit back at the claims on Facebook. He claims he was the person
“who went to the organizer and told her this shit needed to be cut immediately. I arrived 20 minutes late. When I got backstage I didn’t notice her at first. Once I got settled in, I looked up and saw. One of the other Queens pulled me aside and was like “wtf is that?!” To which I had no response other than “that is not going to fly.
By the time this conversation ended it was my turn to go on stage.
I finished my number and immediately went to the show organizer. I told her either Muddy goes or the rest of us are out of here. The organizer had her leave and the rest of the numbers were canceled.“
Busted.
BTW: Blackface is a racist throwback where ‘minstrel performers’ blackened their face in order to mock black people. It’s been seen as unacceptable for a LONG TIME. (*See Megyn Kelly)
