
Before you freak out and start throwing things, first hear me out. Yes, The Alphabet Song has been around for a millennia or so, and countless generations have done just fine with it the way it is. Sure, that LMNOP thing is a little weird – it sounds like one word: “Elemenopeeee” – but whatever. Kids love that part. They sing it with the same gusto they reserve for “FIIIIVE GOLDEN RINGS!”
But. But.
According to TheDigiTeachers, English is a living language. It changes all the time. As does the way we learn it. So, therefore we ought not to go all berserk when we learn that there’s a NEW alphabet song that slooooooows everything down, and changes the melody after the LMNOP part to make things easier to understand.
It was first created in 2012 by Dream English, but seems to be just going viral right now. Musician, songwriter and teacher who goes by the name Matt R., said on his YouTube channel that he teaches “young learners of English as a foreign language, and have found this way [is] the most effective for teaching the letters.”
