I thought it was Rob Zombie’s Woolite commercial when it came on the screen at The Dark Knight Rises, but once I saw Henry Cavill’s purty face, I just about plotzed. I mean: you don’t know. I completely lost my mind. I was the gayest shrieking fanboy in the audience, and this was at the Arclight in Hollywood, so I had some competition. Anyway. These two trailers are visually identical, but one is narrated by Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and the other is narrated by Jor-El (Russell Crowe). The movie is directed by Zack Snyder, but interestingly, without all the nutty hyper-stylized CGI bells and whistles that characterized 300 and Sucker Punch. It looks cold and sad and a bit bleak. The LA Times wonders if: “Henry Cavill’s Superman will have a lonely wanderer component to his hero’s journey and an outsider angst that cuts against the classic ‘big, blue Boy Scout’ version of the hero.”? Whatever direction it takes, I’m very excited.
