I can break it down for you in one sentence: A group of Jellicle cats go to the Jellicle ball on the Jellicle night with the Jellicle moon and do their Jellicle songs and Jellicle dances to decide who among them will die and be reborn as a better cat. A JELLICLE CAT! *Jazz hands*
Which all makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? Watch below as Pop Culture: Decoded takes a deeper dive at what it all means.
Spolier alert: I saw it last night and Rebel Wilson is terrible, Sir Ian McKellen in FANTASTIC, J-Hud screeches and THINKS she’s getting her second Oscar but she’s TERRIBLE and the snot running out of her nose is reeeeeeally distracting. Taylor Swift is perfectly fine, James Corden is a hoot, and someone named Laurie Davidson is super-adorable as Mr Mestophocles, the magical cat. Dame Judi Dench is alternately fabulous and embarrassing and don’t get me started on her 20 minute final monologue to the camera. All in all, a weird fever dream that had me cheering and booing and crying and muttering WTF every five minutes.
