The Academy of Motion Pictures announced today that the 2021 Oscars will not be held virtually, and for nominees to ditch their Zoom pajama bottoms and dress up again.
“The Oscars in-person telecast will happen,” a rep for the Academy and ABC, which airs the show, said.
via New York Post:
Now, the academy will have to suss out details for the live show while maintaining safety protocols, including how many guests will be allowed inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif., where the show is typically held.
“The academy has done a walkthrough of the Dolby recently to see all the multiple options,” the rep told Variety of the 3,400-seat venue.
I mean, what could go wrong? Skyrocketing coronavirus cases, a super spreader event inside a closed space, entitled celebrities flaunting the lockdown rules…. YEEEEESH. A pox on any celebrity who actually attends! What a nightmare!
And can you IMAGINE the outrage if Hollywood celebrities are among the first to get the vaccine, should it be out by the Oscars?
In other awards news:
The 2021 Golden Globes will take place on Feb. 28 and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that the show would be live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
And the Critics Choice Awards, slated for March 7, and the Screen Actors Guild awards — which will be held March 14 — are also still on, but organizers told Variety both shows’ formats are still up in the air.
