Babyshambles was flying budget airline easyJet from London to Barcelona for a performance scheduled for today at the Primavera Sound Festival in the city we like to call “Downtown Spain.” The plane’s crew became suspicious when Pete Doherty, the band’s frontman, went into the lavatory and stayed longer than typically required by an airline passenger bloated from cocktails and peanuts. Eventually, the crew poked around in the tiny facility and came up with a bloody syringe hidden in the waste receptacle. Ah ha! Crew questioned Doherty (why not one of the other members of the band?) about the needle and, says an airline spokesperson, he became “agitated and aggressive.” Police were radioed, boarded the plane at landing, found nothing untoward in the toilet area, but Babyshambles has been banned permanently from flying easyJet, to be on the safe side. But obviously, Doherty was just taking a nice dump, bleeding himself, and making some quick drawings in his sketchbook. He’s probably got a quota to fill for his gallery and dashes off small blood sketches when he can between gigs. That’s all.
