The FBI probe was a sham. The possible swing Republicans (Flake, Collins, Murkowski) are falling into lockstep with their Kavanaugh-loving Republican brethren. And all the past week has done is demoralize Democrats and, perversely, fire up the Republicans. They love a sexual predator, as we know, and nothing feeds their savage fury like a bunch of whiny, moralizing libtards.
NPR is reporting that amid the Kavanaugh confirmation battle, the Democratic’s “enthusiasm edge” has evaporated.
With Democrats already fired up for this election, the Kavanaugh confirmation fight has apparently had the effect of rousing a dormant GOP base.
“The result of hearings, at least in the short run, is the Republican base was awakened,” noted Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the poll.
While Democrats and Republicans are now equally enthusiastic about the midterms, the story is very different for key Democratic base groups and independents. While 82 percent of Democrats say the midterms are very important, that’s true of just 60 percent of people under 30, 61 percent of Latinos and 65 percent of independents.
Democrats need to net 23 seats to take back control of the House, but if those groups stay home in large numbers, it would blunt potential Democratic gains. With 34 days to go until Election Day, it all points to another election dominated by party activists.
Trump, of course, has leapt on this news, tweeting today:
“The harsh and unfair treatment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh is having an incredible upward impact on voters,” Trump tweeted.
“The PEOPLE get it far better than the politicians. Most importantly, this great life cannot be ruined by mean & despicable Democrats and totally uncorroborated allegations!”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Slanders warned Democrats will face significant political consequences in the midterm elections.
‘People are outraged at the way the Democrats have totally made this process into a partisan battle, and they’ve created something that should never have happened,’ she said.
‘They’ve upended our judicial system. And what they have done is energize Republicans, and the president is feeling that energy in all of the locations he’s been.’
‘You’ve seen polling come out in the last day that has Republicans up in -=- or closing the gap — in Montana. Up in North Dakota [and] West Virginia. And I think the message is very clear: Democrats, you made a mistake here, and it’s going to show up in November,’ Sanders claimed.
Soooooo, yeah, great. I guess now is the time for an obligatory GET OUT AND VOTE speech, but frankly I’m too depressed right now to rally the troops.
