r = radius of the car’s curb to curb turning distance
l = length of the car’s wheel base
k = distance from from wheel to front of car
w = width of the car parked next to your car
After learning that 57 percent of drivers lack confidence in their parking ability, Simon R Blackburn, professor of mathematics at the University of London, wrote a paper on “The Geometry of Perfect Parking” and came up with a formula (above) for neat parallel parking without breaking a sweat. Of course, the formula being British, you might have to adjust for right side of the street. (via News: Lite)
