We couldn’t be prouder if he were our own child. Our pal Bryan Rabin – he of the windswept platinum hair – two-footed a triple Salchow and completed seven double jumps, including a double Axel, to win the bronze in Saturday’s 2007 US Adult Championships in Chicago. Los Angeles’s older nightlifers and more than a few WOW Report readers know Rabin as the onetime proprietor of Cherry, inarguably the city’s fiercest club back in the ’80s and ’90s, and for the last six years as partner with David Rodgers in the posh event-planning company, Rabin Rodgers Inc. But most don’t know that 20 years ago he was a national champion figure skater until an injury ended his journey to the Olympics. Last year, he got back on the ice with a coach, retrained, and last month dazzled his celebrity friends at the finals. (USFSA.org)
“After 20 years of not skating, my goal was to come out and do a triple jump and get a physical standard back, which I did,” Rabin said. Coached by Derek James and Amber Corwin, Rabin was thrilled to be at the competition. “It was a great experience to skate again,” Rabin said. “I got to come back, and just being here was fantastic.”
