Elaine Stritch made a name for herself in many ways, most importantly as a Stephen Sondheim star on stage and gay icon. But her most indelible pop culture mark is as Colleen Donaghy, Jack’s mother, on 30 Rock.

I have to confesss, I watch this show incessantly, sometimes having it on even while I sleep. (I know, that’s bad…) But her acting here should really be a master class in phrasing, elocution and TV scene stealing. I love her every gesture. The scenes are out of context, but anyway…
