Danny Masterson was sentenced to the maximum 30 years after being convicted in two rape cases last May. Three women accused Masterson of committing the assaults between 2001 and 2003, during the run of That 70’s Show.
Via Variety:
At the sentencing, Leah Remini — a former Scientologist, who is Hollywood’s most prominent critic of the church — was seated in the front row of the gallery to support the women.
The three Jane Does said — both at the sentencing and in testimony — that the church dissuaded them from reporting Masterson to the police. Prosecutors argued throughout the trial that Masterson had taken advantage of his position in the church to rape women without fear of repercussion, and that the church forbid women from going to the police to report sexual assault.
ABC News has additional details on the convictions, which came after the first trial in 2022 resulted in a hung jury.
