Chad Gurney, 19, from Leicester, UK, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after attempting to slit the throat of a man he met on Grindr.
Gurney and his victim met in a park and headed home for consensual sex on 29 July 2018. Gurney then attempted to slit the victim’s throat a first time, but only inflicted minor injuries. After stabbing his victim a second time, he managed to escape.
After Gurney handed himself into the police, they raided his home and found a booklet detailing the multiple ways he planned to murder people. They also found a diary talking about wanting to murder someone.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: ‘When being interviewed by officers Gurney also admitted he had twice made plans to kill somebody.
‘The second time he planned to lure someone to a disused building but the person never showed up to the location.
‘On one occasion he followed someone over a bridge and was going to attack him from behind but was unable to go through with it.
‘In the Gurney’s diary he also talked about having already murdered someone but when questioned told officers this was a lie.
‘Officers have conducted preliminary searches in relation to this which have proven negative.’
