Taylor Smith, 18, spoke out about the Aug. 7 incident involving her friend Jordan Holgerson, 16. Viral video footage shows the moment Smith pushes Holgerson off Vancouver’s Moulton Falls. Smith had multiple injuries including broken ribs and punctured lungs after she plunged more than 60 feet.
Smith said she pushed Holgerson off the bridge because she asked her to and told Good Morning America,
“She wanted to jump and she was scared and she had asked me to give her a push and I didn’t think about the consequences. I thought she would be fine.“
Smith told GMA the two have been “pretty close” friends for years and hopes they can be friends again.
“I love that girl. I never intended to hurt her, ever. I’m really sorry it turned out that way.”
Holgerson said in an interview with KATU-TV that she had wanted to jump off the bridge after she saw a friend jump first but in a more recent interview with NBC News, Holgerson said she wants Smith to face consequences for pushing her.
“At first I didn’t really want Taylor to get in trouble, but now that I’ve thought about it more, I’m kind of wanting her to sit in jail and think about at least what she did.”
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and has forwarded the case to the prosecutor’s office, which is in charge of deciding whether to file charges against Smith.
With friends like this, who needs enemies…?
