Hot on the heels of Bohemian Rhapsody is the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman starring Kingsman cutie Taron Egerton, the always brilliant Jamie Bell as lyricist Bernie Taupin and the elver-iconic Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother Sheila. Directed by Dexter Fletcher (who took over the direction of Bohemian Rhapsody after Bryan Singer was fired), the film show’s John’s rise to fame in the early ’70s, becoming one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters of all time. The film, thankfully, doesn’t seem gloss over his sexual orientation (in the way the Rhapsody did), nor does it ignore his long-time drug problem and subsequent sobriety.
Said music producer Niles Martin: “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron.’ And the great thing about Elton, is he wants Taron’s interpretation of his songs.”
Rocketman hits theatres May 31.
Check out Taron singing “Tiny Dancer” in the clip below. What do you think? Oscars all around? Or no. Just no.
