When two dolphins in an aquarium in Fushun, Liaoning Province, in northeast China got dangerously sick after swallowing bits of plastic from the edge of their pool, attempts by veterinarians to remove the objects with surgical instruments failed due to the dolphins’ stomach contractions. Then it hit them like, “D’oh! Why didn’t we think of this before?” They remembered that the world’s tallest living man and Guinness Book of World Records record holder, Bao Xishun, just happened to live in nearby Inner Mongolia. So the nearly eight-foot herdsman was sent for and, with the dolphins’ jaws held back by towels, he thrust all 41.7 inches of his arm down their throats to remove the plastic. Although some small pieces remain, they’ll be digested, assured a local doc, and recovery will be swift. The dolphins are resting rather sheepishly, avoiding reporters, and feeling embarrassed to have been so stupid to eat their pool. (WaPo)
