Very odd moment on last night’s Teen Wolf that I REALLY NEED TO DISCUSS. At the hip blacklite party in Derek’s loft, Stiles is making out with a girl. He stops her and says: “I thought you liked girls?” She says that she does. “But you like boys, too?” he asks. “Absolutely,” she answers, then asks: “Do you?” To which Stiles SAYS NOTHING. He just looks blankly into the middle distance, as if contemplating the question. Then the scene moves on. So. What are we to make of that? Of course, there’s always massive homoerotic shenanigans in every scene Stiles is in, but it’s almost always played for laughs (and because the writers know it will be Tumbl’d endlessly). Could they actually be paving the way for Stiles to explore his bisexuality? Even if it leads to nothing, I still just wanted to comment on what a progressive (and provocative) scene it was. Perfect because there was no knee-jerk “I’M NOT GAY” response. Is this wishful thinking on Hollywood’s part, or are high school kids really this reflective when it comes to their own sexual fluidity? Or is this a case of a show like Teen Wolf teaching its viewers that it’s OK to wonder about these things, and hope that they’ll follow suit?
