#RuinedChildhood. Chatting to news.com.au, 53-year-old Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady from The Brady Bunch) spilled the beans about growing pot, making out with her on-screen brother, and how much Maureen McCormick and Eve Plumb hate each other. Read the juiciest tidbits after the jump.!
On how little money they earned when they were on the show:
Not a lot. We even had to pay for our own parking in the first season. They wouldn’t let us drive onto the lot. We earnt very, very little.
On how Eve Plumb (Jan Brady) and Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady) don’t get along in real life:
They do not. I think it’s kind of petty. From day one with these two I have always been in the middle and now it’s at the point where there isn’t even a desire to communicate through me. It’s all really petty, but if your feelings get hurt when you’re really young, some people carry it with them. Or maybe to them, moving on means moving away. I understand both sides of the story but I’m a little more inclined to be sympathetic to Eve. I know that’s horrible to say because Maureen is Australia’s little darling now, appearing on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
This little story about how Maureen McCormick used to go on klepto binges with Susan Cowsill:
There was a family band called The Cowsills, and the show ‘The Partridge Family’ was based on them. When we were all at Hollywood Professional School, Susan Cowsill, who also went there, became very good friends with Maureen. They used to go shoplifting just as a sport and one day they got caught and Maureen bolted and hid in a car for hours and let Susan take the rap for it.
Also, there was the time Susan Olsen used to grow marijuana plants…
I guess technically, but I was really a [marijuana] grower, my husband at the time and I grew it hydroponically. I have never really enjoyed smoking it, it makes me very paranoid. But it was my husband’s idea. It was really fascinating and I’ve always been into ‘gardening’ and it’s such a complicated, wonderfully fascinating plant. But that was one of the reasons why I did leave my husband, because it just bothered me too much that we were doing something so illegal.
And then there’s all the weird, romantic feelings they had for each other:
I think all of us did … We led a sheltered life for part of the year so if there was anybody to get a crush on or try to date, it would be our counterparts. So I had Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) and we used to make out in the doghouse when we were nine. Eve (Plumb, Jan Brady) always had a crush on Chris (Knight, Peter Brady), they did kind of hook up later on. And of course there was Maureen (McCormick, Marcia Brady) and Barry (Williams, Greg Brady), but Barry really wanted to hook up with Florence (Henderson, Carol Brady), but Florence kept that very platonic.
