If you can believe this story on Yahoo, a congressman in Brasilia, Brazil, has proposed a law that would ban giving names to pets that are more commonly assigned to humans. No more Jose, Sharon, or Robert for the Pekinese if Reinaldo Santos e Silva gets his way, which he won’t; this is, like, the first law he’s suggested that got any attention at all. The guy seems to think that certain children may get depressed when they learn they share a first name with someone’s pet. But they’re the same kids who also get depressed that they share a bedroom, the brats. We know someone whose child is named Rover, and neither the child nor Dianne the Labrador has a problem with that. Well, the kid was a rescue.
