According to Deadline, Ryan Murphy fave Finn Whitrock has been cast to star as the hotheaded Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in HBO Max’s upcoming series based on the DC characters, from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Green Lantern reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.
As in the comics, Wittrock’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern will a hulking mass of toxic masculinity, and rendered as the ultimate embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, they assure us that Guy will somehow be likable. He certainly wasn’t on the page, so they have they’re work cut out for them. Despicable character. Of all the lanterns in a =ll the multiverse, why they had to go with him is beond me.
In other superhero news: Noah Centineo will no longer be playing He-Man/Prince Adam in Sony and Mattel Films’ upcoming Masters of the Universe. The role has long been considered quite a feather in his cap, so I imagine this is probably a devastating blow to Noah and his team.
Centineo’s recent body-building glow-up, though, will not go to waste as he is still set to star as Atom Smasher in the upcoming Black Adam, opposite Dwayne Johnson and Aldis Hodge.
